They. Are. Here. Dinosaurs Unearthed.

New England’s first exhibit of life-sized, animatronic dinosaurs, skeletons, and fossils has arrived at the Portland Science Center in Portland, Maine!

A trip to #DinosaursUnearthed isn’t any boring ol’ museum experience. It’s more like an expedition into everything dinosaur.

You’ll hear the roaring as soon as you walk through the doors. With all sorts of different dinosaurs around every corner, you’ll be looking forward to the next meet and greet along the tour! Not only are there realistic dinosaurs, but there are informative plaques and displays that will fill you in on all the dino info too. Who knew about the bird and dinosaur relationship?

We saw fossilized dung stones (yep, that’s poop), dinosaur eggs, and even had some hands-on fun in the Junior Paleontologist Field Dig searching for and uncovering fossils.

The big thrill for my kids (and me too) was the infamous T-Rex. He’s pretty incredible, situated in his habitat, roaring, and sporting a toothy smile. You definitely get a feel for his ginormous size and tiny arms. A very close second favorite was the Stegosaurus exhibit. We were able to make this completely animatronic dino move his head and tail, and even see his ribcage move with each breath. It was very cool and my kids went back to that exhibit again and again!

With multi-media and interactive exhibits that actively engage the kids, an art exhibit by local artist, Philip Carlo Patatore, and an appropriately themed gift shop (filled with toys, books, puzzles, stuffies, and more) everyone leaves this attraction with a new appreciation of prehistoric life!

If you’re ready to discover dinosaurs, then you’ll need to take a trip with the family to check out this museum exhibit (open now through April, 2016).  Check out the Portland Science Center hours of admission and ticket pricing and get started on planning your visit to see Dinosaurs Unearthed!
