The “lunch box” has undergone a complete transformation. It started out as a brown paper bag. A cheap option, parents quickly figured out that the bags ripped, food got squished, and it was certainly detrimental to their carbon footprints. They moved on to bulky plastic or metal contraptions that held spilled and squished food (but at least might sport a favorite superhero or cartoon character). Parents soon realized that those sometimes pricey lunch boxes didn’t accomodate transporting food well and if a thermos fit inside, it was the only thing that would. The arrival of reusable (often insulated) lunch totes with pockets and zippers has made packing and bringing lunch much easier. But, the Bento Box has been the ultimate fix in taking food with you.

That’s a brilliant idea for lunch – just read a study on how over-eating junk food can trigger free radical damage in the body and lead to diabetes. It’s really made me think about getting healthier, especially for lunchtime (burgers aren’t that healthy, sadly.)
