I always wish there were more than just the 4 short weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas. This action-packed timeline me into mad dashes to the grocery store, frantic shopping for last minute gifts, and long lists of things to do! The Spirit of Christmas could easily be forgotten with the obligations of my daily routine plus the onslaught of additional Holiday festivities!
I make a concerted effort to truly enjoy the Holidays with my family and remember the real reason for the season. I try not to get too distracted by the promise of layaways, the discouraging behavior at Black Friday sales, the pressure of making sure Santa delivers.
A great way to rediscover the true meaning of Christmas and engage your family in making a difference in other people’s lives is by sharing The Sparkle Box by Jill Hardie.
This inspiring story is about a small boy who realizes the joy of being generous to others. His parents discreetly record the small acts of kindness they commit on slips of paper and place them in the Sparkle Box. On Christmas morning, they eagerly open the box and read the slips of paper aloud. “Giving unto others” becomes their favorite gift and the act transforms both the giver and the receiver. Some of the practical ideas we have put in our Sparkle Box include donating to our local Goodwill, participating in a food drive, giving a gift card for food to a family friend in need. The concept of The Sparkle Box has sparked an awareness in my young children and I am grateful to see their excitement and pride in thinking of new ways to help others!Start a new tradition with your family this Christmas season and share The Sparkle Box by Jill Hardie with your family.
